Monique "Pua" Sawicki

Originally from Hawaii, "Pua" started racing in college as a cross country runner. Eventually she found herself deep into triathlons and road racing. After qualifying for the Ironman World Championships she moved to California. Pua met her husband on a mountain bike ride and the two of them became training partners. They started adventure racing together and finally moved into mountain bike racing in 2004. Now Pua races at the elite level while working with her Keiki (kids) race team and putting on endurance clinics across the country.

Brandon Grove M.D.

Coach

Dr. Grove is a Board Certified Family Physician who has combined his fascination with the human body and a love for sport into his role as team trainer/physician. A graduate of UC Davis School of Medicine, he is currently in private practice in Huntington Beach, CA. As a physician, he is trained to analyze research data and determine what will and will not be effective for our athletes. Through the application of sound scientific principles and systematic training regimens, he seeks to unlock the maximum potential within each of his athletes. An athlete as well, he mountain bikes for conditioning and completed the Vision Quest endurance race in 2004, giving him added insight into the pain and mental conditioning such distance requires.

Ron Sawicki

Team Manager/Training Partner

Not only is Ron Pua's manager/training partner but they are also husband and wife. Ron is the 2004 NORBA National amateur Marathon Champion (30-39) and still races when he can between Pua's races. Ron works with her coach very closely on everything from Pua's technique to training & nutrition. Ron heads up Team MATA's Developmental team and oversees all PR and management duties.

Barry Wood

Web Master

Barry handles the web design, development, posters and other promo material for Team Mata. An avid mountain biker himself since 1999 he can remember riding with Pua when she had just started mountain biking. Back then he was just able to keep up with her... on the downhills.

Barry is also is an acting director of the Warrior's Society and is responsible for their web site, jersey design, and event t-shirts.
